2011 yılı Mart ayı için planlanan Akdeniz Hidrobiyoloji Kongresi, Akdeniz'e kıyısı bulunan pek çok ülkede yaşanan sivil kargaşa nedeniyle iptal edilmek zorunda kalmış ve ileri bir tarihe ertelenmiştir.

Our ancient Mare Nostrum, The Mediterranean Sea, has sustained the impact of human settlement, development, commerce and inevitable exploitation of marine resources for thousands of years, despite of its “immune deficiency” due to several historical and biological reasons. Most important drivers of biodiversity changes (such as intensive fishing, tourism, pollution, uncontrolled coastal development, climate change etc.) has become much more visible especially during the last couple of decades, mainly resulting from direct or indirect activities of human kind.
This Hydrobiological Congress will focus on Mediterranean marine ecosystems from the viewpoint of biodiversity and conservation, which is convened as a forum for scientists, NGO’s, managers and planners to promote international exchange of knowledge and sharing experiences. Our main congress theme, Mediterranan Sea Biodiversity, includes tentatively the following topics:

Main Theme - Mediterranean Sea BiodiversityResults of recent marine biota surveys

Alien marine organisms – status, biology, ecology, socio-economical impacts

Marine reserves as tools for restoration of biodiversity

Conservation of Mediterranean biodiversity

Research on endangered species

Anthropogenic threats on biodiversity

Food web dynamics

Fishery activities – impact on ecosystems, IUU fishing, future fishery prospects

Identification of future priorities in Mediterranean marine biodiversity research

A couple of workshops will also be held during the MEDHYCON; please feel free to forward your ideas on possible workshop themes (which is going to be evaluated by the congress boards). Currently available workshop themes are listed below:

Workshop Theme 1 - Governance of coastal systems
Linking biodiversity research results with management and conservation

Integrated coastal zone management

Information needs for policy making and management

Stakeholder and governmental involvement in protecting coastal areas
